Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- MARINADe
- 1 cup buttermilk (You can make your own buttermilk by adding 1 Tbsp of lemon juice or vinegar to a cup of milk)
- 1/4 cup pickle juice
- 1/4 cup hot sauce
- COATING
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- SAUce
- 2 Tbsp cayenne
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp paprika
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- SERVE WITh
- 4 pieces of Texas toast
- 8 pickle chips
Instructions
- 1Combine the buttermilk, pickle juice, and hot sauce in a bowl and soak the chicken thighs in the mixture.
- 2Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and a portion of the salt in a shallow dish.
- 3Dredge the soaked chicken thighs into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- 4Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and fry the chicken until golden brown and cooked through.
- 5Mix the cayenne, brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and remaining salt with a small amount of hot frying oil to create the spice coating.
- 6Brush or coat the fried chicken with the spicy seasoning mixture.
- 7Serve the Nashville hot chicken on thick slices of Texas bread topped with pickle chips.
