An easy, super crispy Nashville Hot Chicken recipe covered in a spicy, flavorful seasoning mix and served with pickles on thick Texas bread.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • MARINADe
  • 1 cup buttermilk (You can make your own buttermilk by adding 1 Tbsp of lemon juice or vinegar to a cup of milk)
  • 1/4 cup pickle juice
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • COATING
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • SAUce
  • 2 Tbsp cayenne
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp paprika
  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • SERVE WITh
  • 4 pieces of Texas toast
  • 8 pickle chips

Instructions

  1. 1Combine the buttermilk, pickle juice, and hot sauce in a bowl and soak the chicken thighs in the mixture.
  2. 2Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and a portion of the salt in a shallow dish.
  3. 3Dredge the soaked chicken thighs into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
  4. 4Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and fry the chicken until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. 5Mix the cayenne, brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and remaining salt with a small amount of hot frying oil to create the spice coating.
  6. 6Brush or coat the fried chicken with the spicy seasoning mixture.
  7. 7Serve the Nashville hot chicken on thick slices of Texas bread topped with pickle chips.
