Ingredients

  • 1.5kg chicken pieces, bone-in
  • 2 large onions, finely diced
  • 3 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tsp hot paprika
  • 400ml chicken stock
  • 200ml sour cream
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Fresh dill to finish

Instructions

  1. 1Season chicken well. Brown in batches in hot oil. Set aside.
  2. 2Cook onions in the same pot over low heat until very soft, about 15 mins.
  3. 3Remove from heat. Stir in both paprikas — off heat prevents burning.
  4. 4Return chicken. Add stock. Simmer covered 40 mins until cooked through.
  5. 5Remove chicken. Stir sour cream into sauce over low heat — don't boil.
  6. 6Return chicken. Serve over egg noodles or spätzle with dill.
